Praise for Caught Between Heaven & Earth

Renowned cardiologist Pim van Lommel, M.D. points to similarities in Nancy van Alphen’s spiritual experiences and those of his NDE subjects. Recommends Caught Between Heaven & Earth to researchers.

I’ve spent over half-a-lifetime studying the near-death experience and found that Nancy van Alphen’s marvelous account of her spiritual awakening has many of the same elements reported by my research subjects. The most enduring is that it resulted in a total transformation of her person – from knowing herself only as a separate entity, to someone fully aware of and immersed in what might be termed universal consciousness…or using the term she was given, oneness. The pattern follows that of about all near-death experiencers, who re-focus their life on what is truly important: love for others, self, and nature.

I read Nancy’s book after meeting her because she spoke of her experience with honesty and heartfelt emotion. Nancy’s authentic sharing of her struggle to believe whether her encounters were real speaks volumes about our human resistance to change, even when the evidence is knocking on our door. But like Nancy, at one point the evidence will be too compelling to deny, and the paradigm in science will shift.

I recommend Caught Between Heaven and Earth to general readers and researchers alike as Nancy tells her story in an entertaining manner interspersed with thoughtful scientific and theological probing.

Kenneth Ring calls Caught Between Heaven & Earth riveting and engaging!

Nancy van Alphen’s Caught Between Heaven and Earth is a riveting and very engaging account of a woman’s spiritual awakening.  Written with humor in a very lively style, Nancy’s account of how she had to overcome her initial skepticism as she learned about her past lives will appeal to many readers interested in spiritual issues.  I certainly enjoyed reading her engrossing story, and I think you will, too

I have done thousands of Past Life Readings in my time as a clinical psychologist, healer, and intuitive. It gives me great pleasure to have conversations with people afterwards and hear feedback about how their Past Life information has helped to shed light on the uppermost struggles of their current lifetime. Nancy’s story does exactly this. Sharing this awareness if a gift to everyone.

In “Caught Between Heaven and Earth,” we as readers enjoyed the journey of an intelligent and relatable human being. Grounded in logic, Nancy fought past her own skepticism and did not give up when the time came to do healing work. Despite the revelation of learning she had lived as the vengeful and murderous son of God’s beloved King David, referred to in the Bible as “a man after God’s own heart,” Nancy sought understanding. She looked for common ground among different religions and information culled from others’ present-day spiritual experiences, including the near-death phenomena. She weaves her findings into her own intriguing personal narrative, becoming the teller of her own story.

In Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism), the soul is born into this lifetime for two purposes: 1) Tikkun, meaning correction or making amends, and 2) to bring more light into this world. Just as Nancy shares the story of young Ben Breedlove at the beginning of her book, who is “adamant that the light had comforted him and brought him peace and happiness,” so are we called to do the same. As with all of us, the Past Life story always clarifies and elucidates our purpose in our current life.

When we access Past Lives, the information may be too dark or overwhelming. No matter how dark that journey may be, we can always find that there is light behind the darkness – always! “All roads lead to Rome,” as the saying goes – or in this case – to God. Nancy’s journey is impressive and uplifting.

I am proud of Nancy for her courage in sharing her story with us that we might find light in it! It is valuable that she is open and sharing of her rapprochement to God. Nancy went in as an agnostic, and exited as a full-on believer. Kudos to Nancy for her persistence in continuing the work, in having courage and resilience, in doing it in a world too often filled with darkness. What a lesson for the rest of us!

Blessings, dear reader,

“Nancy van Alphen takes you by the hand and ushers you into her mind and then into her heart where you experience her intimate and breath-taking journey from agnosticism to spirituality. Her authentic report begins with angels at her door. That day marked the beginning of her transformation which she describes in honest detail.  Hers is a journey similar in its mystical nature, to that which I and countless others have experienced in this time of rising awareness.  The truths that unfold to Nancy in surprising, even astonishing ways will resonate in the heart of experiencers and non-experiencers alike.

“I am not a religious person. I find no solace or inspiration in the Christian translations of the divine. I was nevertheless engrossed by “Caught Between Heaven & Earth” by Nancy Van Alphen. I read the book quickly, start to finish, eager to walk beside Nancy on her spiritual journey, deeply curious about the outcomes of this awakening. The writing is clean, crisp and without stylistic artifice, pulling the reader in easily, as if we are hearing the unfolding story from a friend. I empathized with and was curious about Nancy’s world, wanting to learn with her.

I particularly appreciated how the author established a link between the STE (spiritually transformative experience) and the NDE (near death experience). While I am very familiar with the NDE, the STE as a formal category was new to me. While these two experiences are distinct in important ways, including the fact that NDEs may present a biological clue into the manifestation of human consciousness, as the author’s story and research reveals, STEs have and will continue to have a profound impact on the social evolution on individuals and collectively of humanity. They deserve our attention and understanding, exactly what this book brings.

I was also struck by the author’s honesty. One reflection especially resonated—her encounter with the local clergy when she seeks to tell him about her STEs. This representative of God chose to ignore the “miraculous nature of her experiences,” and her personal connection to the divine. “Similar scenarios occurred over the next few years when I sought the input from other clergy at other churches. Sadly, some were compelled to put a negative spin on what I considered sacred. I simply couldn’t understand how my experiences could be bad when they drew me to God.” The simplicity of this expressed truth is a good example of the author’s insight and introspection on display throughout this interesting and highly readable book.”

I really enjoyed this book. It had a nice relaxed style, and I felt I really got to know the author. She showed how we don’t need to have a near-death experience (NDE) to have the most profound spiritually transformative experiences (STE). The author describes beautiful otherworldly encounters and gives new insights into reincarnation from her own remarkable STE. It is a lovely book with a beautiful message and well worth reading.

Highly recommend this book!  Wow! What a profoundly thought provoking and compelling book! It took me all of one day to read it. You are taken on a journey through the author’s amazing experiences and encounters. It makes you think about life and our mortality or perhaps immortality in a whole new way. The author encounters situations you never thought possible until reading this book. It is written in a very relatable and at times humorous way and is a very easy read. It will really get you thinking and I highly recommend this book!

A great read! If life surprised you, would you be brave enough to believe it? This book is one woman’s answer. I finished it in 2 days because I couldn’t put it down. Nancy’s story is fascinating, well written, and inspiring. I can’t wait to read her next one!

Delightful Read. This thoughtful and provocative book describes the author’s journey from an agnostic to a full believer in God. Her personal experiences build upon each other while showing an evolution of growth and acceptance. Each time Nancy doubts and questions her new beliefs, validations that strengthen her acknowledgement of God’s work occur. I enjoyed reading this delightful book and recommend it to all those interested in learning about life’s mysterious paths of joy.

A Modern Day Revelation. When I heard Nancy tell this tale at a conference two years ago, I was stunned both by her matter-of-fact delivery and by the profound implications of the story itself. As the account unfolded, I was moved from skepticism to belief. Now that I have finished her book, I have to say that because of the additional detail and slower pace of the story in written form, she has managed to do an even better job in writing than she did in the oral presentation I saw. This is nothing short of a modern-day revelation. Kudos to this brave woman for sharing her incredible story. Warning: this book will make you think!

In a world that is decrying religion and GOD, he has opened a dialogue to be shared.  This book kept my interest and I read it from cover to cover in one sitting. I was intrigued by the writers experiences which have taken her on a journey to spiritual knowing. The book has supported some of my own beliefs and provides a plethora of resources. A profoundly moving read.
